I have been waiting to play vanilla again for a long time. I've played Vanilla, TBC, WOTLK, and the first couple months of WOD. Skipped MOP/Cata.

I am interested in rolling either a mage, lock, spriest, or warrior - horde or alliance. I used to pvp a lot, but now looking to raid too.

Any recommendations on classes or faction?

You should play the class you love the most. Vanilla is much time investment in one char, so you need passion for this one.

If the fraction and world pvp is not that much important you should choose horde on the pve server. They need more players. On pvp its even i think.

I'm with Phyle on his recommendations - definitely pick a class you enjoy playing as opposed to what's "needed". You don't want to be pidgeonholed into playing something you don't enjoy.

At the moment (at least on the PVE server) there doesn't seem to be a major shortage of either of the roles, so you won't feel left out if you play a DPS class, as opposed to a more hybrid one.
