From administrator Daemon:
You have already created an account on Nostalrius Begins, but you can't login?
Here are some common mistakes and misconfiguration that can prevent you from playing on Nostalrius.

  • You need a separate account for the forum and for the game. You can create your game account on our website (https://en.nostalrius.org/).
  • You need to have a proper 1.12.1 client.
    • Other versions are not supported (1.12.0 / 1.12.2 clients are kicked!).
    • Your client should not be modified (addons are allowed, model editing is not and can lead to account ban)
      • On your "Data" folder, you should have exactly 2 files starting with "Patch*": Patch.MPQ and Patch-2.MPQ, else you may get disconnected
    • Some private servers (Feenix for example) provide a modified client that can only connect to ONE private server. In that case, you need to download the real "WoW.exe" file (on Windows)
    • You should configure your realmlist.wtf file as follow: set realmlist login.nostalrius.org
    • More information on how to download / configure the game: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=638
  • You need to be able to connect through the following TCP ports : 3724, 8000-8100. These ports are sometimes disabled when using public Wifi or professional networks. You can use a VPN to bypass this restriction.
  • Cheats are not allowed. Some cheats programs are detected even when they are not enabled. Remove any cheating software from your computer before attempting to play on Nostalrius Begins.
  • If you select a Test Realm instead of the main realm, you must either:
    Set your realmlist to:

    set realmlist login.nostalrius.org
    set realmname "Nostalrius Begins"

    or

Hit ESC right after typing in your log-in information. This will bring up the realm selection screen.

Edit : SweetFX can allow leads to issue.

General Troubleshooting

I'm having a problem either logging into the game or playing the game. Got any quick or simple solutions I can try?

Absolutely! If you find yourself unable to log into the game or you can login but are experiencing one or more problems in the game itself, try the solutions listed below. These solutions could potentially fix the following problems:
  • Unable to connect to the game server.
  • Instantly disconnected from game server upon login.
  • Settings not saving or reverting to default values.
  • Chat and other text-related functions not working correctly.
  • Missing or incomplete inventory or bank items.
  • Unable to turn in completed quests.
  • Incorrect stats appearing on items or gear.
  • Graphical or other visually-related glitches.

IP addresses, ports, tracerts, and pathpings.
Nostalrius Begins is currently operating from the two following IP addresses and ports:
  • Realm server: IP 178.33.122.86, port 3724
  • World server: IP 5.196.82.39, port 8089

Two commands called a "tracert" and a "pathping" can be run in a Windows command prompt to help troubleshoot connectivity problems to these IP addresses. Refer to the following links for Blizzard's official explanation on how a tracert and a pathping work as well as how to analyze them.

You may need to configure your modem, router, and/or firewall to allow traffic to and from these addresses. Ports 3724 and 8089 will also need to be opened. Refer to your hardware manufacturer's manual or website for information on configuration and settings.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Configuring the "realmlist.wtf" file.
The "realmlist.wtf" file acts as a reference for your game client. It contains the URL of the private server you want to play on. Depending on where you downloaded your 1.12.1 game client from dictates what might appear in your realmlist.wtf file. If you downloaded the official Nostalrius game client, the realmlist.wtf file should already be configured to play on Nostalrius Begins. If you downloaded the client from another private server, a torrent, or elsewhere, your realmlist.wtf file might need to be changed so you can play on Nostalrius Begins.

Step #1: Log out and close WoW, browse to and open your World of Warcraft Classic folder on your computer, locate the realmlist.wtf file, and double-click it. If your computer doesn't open the file and prompts you for a program selection, proceed to step #2. Otherwise, if your computer opens it in Notepad or another text editor, skip to step #4.
Image

Step #2: If your computer doesn't open the file, select "Select a program from a list of installed programs" and click the "OK" button.
Image

Step #3: Select "Notepad" and click the "OK" button. If Notepad isn't in the list of programs to choose from, click the "Browse" button and manually browse to the Notepad.exe file located under your Windows folder (Typically C:\Windows). You can also select another text editor if you have one installed.
Image

Step #4: Verify it has the two following values configured:
  • set realmlist login.nostalrius.org
  • set realmname "Nostalrius Begins"
If it does not contain one or both of these values, change it and save the file. After changing and saving the file, open WoW and try to login.
Image

Step #4 Alternative: This step is optional and not mandatory! If you verified the realmlist.wtf file contains "set realmlist login.nostalrius.org" but are still unable to login or connect to the game, you can try configuring it to use the secondary login server for Nostalrius Begins. Follow the same steps above but when you get to step #4, set the value to:
  • set realmlist login2.nostalrius.org
After changing and saving the file, open WoW and try to login.

Deleting the "WDB" folder.
Thread: https://forum.nostalrius.org/viewtopic. ... 494#p39659

The "WDB" folder acts as a "database" that contains information on a variety of things, including: mobs, items, gear, NPCs, quests, etc. Data is downloaded from the game server and cached in this folder for quick retrieval later. Sometimes data in this folder will get corrupted or the game server will update a piece of data that does not match the data you already have cached in your WDB folder, in which case, this folder needs to be deleted so updated or clean data can be downloaded.

Deleting this folder will not harm anything. Instead it will force your game client to re-download information from the game server and will create a new WDB folder. Simply log out and close WoW, browse to and open your World of Warcraft Classic folder on your computer, locate the WDB folder, and delete it. Proceed to open WoW and login again and a new WDB folder will automatically be created.
Image

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Deleting the "WTF" folder.
If deleting the WDB folder didn't resolve your problem, you might want to try deleting the "WTF" folder next. The WTF folder contains files that are account-specific in terms of characters created, settings, addon configurations, etc. Similar to the WDB folder, sometimes the data in this folder will get corrupted or a setting or addon will break and cause problems elsewhere in WoW. Just like the WDB folder, the WTF folder can also be deleted.

Deleting this folder will not harm anything, but it may cause customized chat, addon, and macro settings to be deleted. After deletion, it will force your game client to re-download your account information from the game server and will create a new WTF folder using default values. Simply log out and close WoW, browse to and open your World of Warcraft Classic folder on your computer, locate the WTF folder, and delete it. Proceed to open WoW and login again and a new WTF folder will automatically be created. If any customized chat, addon, or macro settings have been lost, they will need to be reconfigured.

Uninstalling and reinstalling WoW.
Sometimes an installation just goes awry; files don't get installed correctly or end up missing altogether. Even an installation that seems to have gone smoothly may eventually become corrupted or have files deleted due to external forces like an antivirus quarantine. Whatever the reason, one solid troubleshooting method that should always be employed is the uninstall/reinstall.

Don't worry, uninstalling WoW won't delete your character or lose any in-game items, stats, or gear. All data pertaining to your account and character(s) are stored on the Nostalrius server. At worst, you'll lose minor customized things like chat settings and addon configurations. Either way, uninstalling is a safe practice and highly recommended when trying to fix WoW errors.

Step #1: With WoW closed, click the Windows "Start" button and select "Control Panel" from the Start menu (NOTE: Due to each version of Windows being different, it's possible your Control Panel might not be listed in your Start menu. If that's the case, you will need to hunt around on your computer for the location of your Control Panel).
Image

Step #2: In the Control Panel window, locate the "Programs" section and click the link labeled "Uninstall a program" (NOTE: Again, due to each version of Windows being different, it's possible the Programs section of the Control Panel may be in a different location. If that's the case, you will need to continue hunting around for it).
Image

Step #3: In the Programs and Features window, a list will be populated of all programs currently installed on your computer. If sorted by Name, scroll down to the bottom and locate "World of Warcraft Classic" (The name of the Nostalrius game client). Select it and click the "Uninstall" button. This action will proceed to uninstall and remove the Nostalrius game client from your computer (NOTE: Make sure to NOT uninstall "World of Warcraft;" that is the name of Blizzard's official retail version. You can check the "Product version" near the bottom; the Nostalrius game client will have a Product version of "1.12.1.5875").
Image

Step #4: After the uninstallation is complete, browse to the folder where your World of Warcraft Classic folder was previously installed to and verify there are no loose files or folders remaining. It is possible that the "Interface" and "Screenshots" folders will remain after an uninstall. If you want to keep your addon files and screenshot images, cut and paste them somewhere safe on your computer. If there are any other files or folders remaining that pertain to the installation, delete them. Once you have confirmed that every trace of WoW has been deleted, locate the Nostalrius installer you used to originally install the game and conduct a reinstall. Follow the instructions in the Beginner's Guide 2.0 to ensure the reinstall is done correctly.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Moving the "World of Warcraft Classic" folder outside of the Program Files directory.
If you ran the Nostalrius installer and used all the default configurations, chances are the game was installed under your "Program Files" folder on your computer. In the example screenshot below, WoW is installed to "C:\Program Files (x86)\World of Warcraft Classic."

Ordinarily this wouldn't be a problem, but for some computers, if user account control or security settings are turned up high, Windows will prevent some changes from being made to certain files in the WoW folder. This can cause WoW to not run properly, display errors, addons to not work right, or any changes you make to be reverted when closing WoW.
Image

Instead of troubleshooting your computer's user account control or security settings (You're certainly free to do so if you choose), it's easier to simply move the entire WoW folder into another directory outside of the Program Files folder so Windows will allow changes to be made to it.

Browse to your World of Warcraft Classic folder on your computer, right-click it, and select "Cut." It is recommended to move the folder to a root directory, such as "C:\." In the example screenshot below, the WoW folder has been moved to "C:\World of Warcraft Classic."

Browse to "C:\" (Or the letter drive of your choice), right-click, and select "Paste." Wait for the folder to be moved, this can take several minutes. When finished moving, proceed to open WoW.exe and login. Be sure to update any shortcut files that still reference the old location.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Running "WoW.exe" as an administrator.
If you've tried all of the above solutions and none of them have fixed your problem, you can try running WoW as an administrator as a last resort. Running WoW as an administrator can force Windows to run the game the way you would expect it to without any interference from user account control, permissions, or security/antivirus programs.

Manually running WoW.exe as an administrator
The quickest and easiest way to run WoW as an administrator is to simply right-click the WoW shortcut you use to open the game and select "Run as administrator" in the menu. Depending on your Windows security settings, you may be prompted to click "OK" to proceed with opening WoW. After WoW opens, try logging into your account and character and see if your problem has been fixed. If your problem deals with settings not saving after you log off and exit the game, proceed to change a few settings, log off, exit WoW, and reopen it as administrator and relog again to see if your settings were saved.
Image

Permanently running WoW.exe as an administrator
While the above solution is good, it might get annoying having to right-click and select "Run as administrator" every time you open WoW. If you find that this solution does in fact fix your problem, you can set your computer to open WoW as an administrator automatically without having to right-click and do it yourself each time.

Step #1: Locate the WoW shortcut you use to open the game, right-click it, and select "Properties." This will open the WoW.exe's properties window.
Image

Step #2: In the Properties window, click the "Compatibility" tab across the top and click the button labeled "Change settings for all users" near the bottom. This will open a compatibility for all users window.
Image

Step #3: In the compatibility for all users window, enable the checkbox labeled "Run this program as an administrator" in the Privilege Level section near the bottom. When finished, click the "OK" button.
Image

Step #4: After clicking the "OK" button, you will be returned to the WoW.exe properties window. Ensure the checkbox labeled "Run this program as an administrator" is enabled. Once confirmed, click the "OK" button to save your changes. Now every time you double-click the WoW shortcut to open the game, your computer will automatically run WoW as an administrator. Depending on your Windows security settings, you may be prompted to click "OK" to proceed with opening WoW.

In-depth Troubleshooting

"I've tried all the above but no luck! I'm still getting <insert login error here>! What else can I do?"

Problem:
"Disconnected from server."
The most frequently reported problem regarding login is the "Disconnected from server" message. After entering your Account Name and Account Password and trying to login, a series of message prompts will appear: "Connecting...Authenticating...Handshaking...Success...Connected" but immediately after "Connected," the server disconnects you and you aren't able to login. This happens repeatedly every time you try to login.
Image

Cause:
This could be caused by the wrong realm associated with your setup. Nostalrius presently has six realms: Player Test Realm, Nostalrius Begins, Test Realm - IsVV2, Test Realm 1, Test Realm 2, and Test Realm 3.

"Nostalrius Begins" is the correct realm to play on and should be the one associated with your setup. You can verify which realm is associated with your setup by looking below the "Terms of Use" button in the bottom, right corner of the login screen. In the example below, the wrong realm (Test Realm - IsVV2) has been selected. Sometimes the client does not suggest the correct realm or players may accidentally select the wrong realm. This can be fixed by forcing the game to return to the Realm Selection screen during the login process.
Image

Solution:
Step #1: After entering your Account Name and Account Password in the login screen and trying to login, watch the message prompts very carefully for "Success...Connected." At this point, quickly press either the "Escape" or "Enter" button on your keyboard when you see either of these messages appear on your screen. If you're nimble enough, you can also try to click the "Cancel" button with your mouse when either of these messages appear on your screen as well.
Image

Step #2: If you time it right, this will cancel the wrong realm connection and will instead bring up the Realm Selection screen. From here, you are able to select the correct realm to associate with your setup and connect to. Select "Nostalrius Begins" and click "Okay" (NOTE: It may take you a few tries to get the timing right on the cancellation. If it didn't work and you got disconnected, relax; it's no big deal. Just repeat step #1 again until you are successful).
Image

Step #3: After logging off and returning sometime later to login again, you can verify the correct realm is associated with your setup by once again looking below the "Terms of Use" button in the bottom, right corner of the login screen. It should read "Nostalrius Begins."
Image

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Problem:
"The information you have entered is not valid."
When trying to login, the process stops abruptly at "Authenticating" and gives the error "The Information you have entered is not valid."
Image

Cause:
This message could be the result of entering the wrong Account Name or using an account that hasn't been created or registered yet. The server cannot find the Account Name you specified so it deems the account invalid.

Solutions:
  • Ensure you have properly registered an account on the main Nostalrius website. Remember, forum accounts are separate from game accounts; neither are shared and you cannot use one to log into the other.
  • Check the spelling and format of your Account Name. Ensure you are typing it exactly as it appeared when you registered it; letters and numbers.
  • If you've ever logged into WoW successfully before, ensure you're using the correct Account Name. You can verify what Account Name you've previously logged in with by browsing to the "Account" folder on your computer located in World of Warcraft Classic\WTF\Account. Inside the Account folder will be one or more sub-folders labeled with the Account Name(s) you've previously logged in with.
  • Verify your Account Name is correct and active by logging in on the main Nostalrius website. Enter your Account Name in the "Username" field, enter your Account Password in the "Password" field, and click the "Login" button to see information relevant to your account.
  • Count the total number of characters in your Account Name. The WoW login screen limits Account Names to a maximum of 16 characters in length. If your Account Name is 17 characters or longer, you won't be able to use it to log into the game and must register a new account. If you register a new account, ensure your Account Name is 16 characters or less in length.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Problem:
"Unable to connect."
When trying to login, the process stops abruptly at "Handshaking" and gives the error "Unable to connect."
Image

Cause:
This message could be the result of entering the wrong Account Password. The password you are typing in does not match the password that is associated with the Account Name you are trying to login with. The server recognizes the Account Name but it rejects the password you are using and simply informs you are unable to connect to the server.

Solutions:
  • Passwords are case sensitive. Ensure you are typing the password letters correctly in terms of uppercase and lowercase.
  • Check the spelling and format of your password. Ensure you are typing it exactly as you remember typing it when you registered your account; letters and numbers. Open Notepad or another text editor and type out your password to ensure there's nothing faulty with your keyboard and/or use of Shift or Caps Lock.
  • You can attempt to copy/paste your password from a text editor into the Account Password field to see if it makes a difference. Outside of WoW, in Notepad or another text editor, type out your password, highlight the entire string of text, and press Ctrl+C on your keyboard to "copy" the text. Open the WoW login screen, enter your Account Name, click inside the Account Password field, and press Ctrl+V on your keyboard to "paste" the text, then login.
  • Try resetting your Account Password using the "Forgot your password?" link on the main Nostalrius website. Enter the e-mail address in the "E-mail" field you used to register your account with, enter your Account Name in the "Username" field you're trying to login with, enable the reCAPTCHA checkbox, and click the "Send" button to have a confirmation e-mail sent to your e-mail address with password reset instructions. Check your Spam folder if you don't receive the confirmation e-mail. Follow the instructions in the e-mail to reset your password and try to login to the game again once completed.
  • Count the total number of characters in your password. The WoW login screen limits Account Passwords to a maximum of 16 characters in length. If your Account Password is 17 characters or longer, you won't be able to use it to log into the game and must either reset your password or register a new account. If you register a new account, ensure your Account Password is 16 characters or less in length.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Problem:
"This World of Warcraft account has been closed and is no longer available for use."
This message can appear in a variety of circumstances, but the two most common are:
  • A player has forgotten their password and tries multiple times to login but is unsuccessful and eventually sees this message after so many failed login attempts, or
  • A player might experience a disconnect while actively playing and, when relogging, will see this message.
Image

Cause 1:
If it's the former (Trying to login too many times unsuccessfully), chances are it's a temporary ban on your IP for security reasons. Frequent and repeated failure to login with an account is a behavior exhibited by hackers when trying to brute-force their way into a stolen account. Nostalrius has security measures in place to limit these types of attacks and will result in a temporary ban of the IP. This means not only will you be unable to login with your account, but you will also be unable to login with any other accounts as well.

Solution 1:
Simply wait out the ban. The ban is not permanent; only temporary. It typically lasts about 15 minutes. Try logging in again when it has expired. Be sure to carefully type in your Account Name and Account Password exactly as you remember typing them when you registered your account because another round of unsuccessful logins can result in another temporary IP ban.

Cause 2:
If it's the latter (A disconnect followed by this message when relogging), chances are it's a ban from the server's anti-cheat software, a GM, or an administrator for one or more offenses.

Solution 2:
There are two ways to find out if an account has been banned:
  • Use the Nostalrius Login web page to login and verify the status of the Account Name.
  • Create a thread in the Account Issues subforum in Support and list the character name you were either playing on when you were banned or that you're trying to access. GMs monitoring the Support forums will look up the account linked to your character name and respond with your account's status.

If there is a ban on the account and you're using the Nostalrius Login web page, the site will display the time remaining until your ban is lifted and the reason why your account was banned. If you're using the Account Issues subforum, a GM that is monitoring the forum will look up your character's account information and confirm if you are banned, for how long, and provide the reason why.

Please do not list your Account Name or e-mail address in your thread for privacy and security reasons.
Refer to Abathur's thread for more information on account banning.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Problem:
"Character creation failed."
Maybe you're not having login problems. Instead, you're able to successfully log into the game, but as soon as you create your character and click the "Accept" button, the error "Character creation failed" appears and you're unable to complete the creation of your character.
Image

Cause:
This is caused by connecting to the "Player Test Realm" which is the wrong realm to be playing on. If selected, most of the test/dev realms will result in an immediate disconnect or the inability to login, but the Player Test Realm is unique in the sense that it allows players to actually connect and attempt to create characters. Similar to the "Disconnected from server" error above, you can also verify if this realm is associated with your setup by looking below the "Terms of Use" button in the bottom, right corner of the login screen.
Image

Solution:
Step #1: This is easily fixed by clicking the "Change Realm" button in the top, right corner of the Character Selection screen after logging in.
Image

Step #2: After clicking "Change Realm," the Realm Selection window will appear. Select "Nostalrius Begins" and click "Okay." After connecting to Nostalrius Begins, proceed to create your character as you normally would.
Image

NOTE: Alternatively, you can also follow steps #1 through #3 outlined in the "Disconnected from server" error further up in this guide to select the correct realm if you wish, though it is more cumbersome to perform.

Additional Help

"Okay, I'm now past the login screen and playing my character, but I need help in the actual game itself now."

Try reading some of the guides compiled below. These aren't meant to fix specific problems, but can help optimize your WoW setup as well as helping with any potential interruptions during your game play. You will also find tips on how to best report perceived problems or players breaking the rules to the Nostalrius staff.

Opening an in-game ticket / Reporting a player.

If you're experiencing a problem in the game itself and can't seem to resolve it on your own and need the assistance of a GM, or if you've discovered other players are violating any of the Nostalrius Terms of Use, both can be reported to a GM by opening an in-game ticket. To open an in-game ticket, follow these steps:

Step #1: Open the "Help" menu.
When logged into the game and actively playing your character, click the "Help" button on your toolbar (The red "?" icon).
Image

Step #2: Click the "Issues that GMs can assist with" button.
The WoW Customer Support window will open. Click the button near the bottom labeled "Issues that GMs can assist with."
Image

Step #3: Select the "Stuck" option.
A list of different issues a GM can assist with will be presented. All issues can be filed under the "Stuck" option and will be seen by GMs. Click the "Stuck" option at the top (NOTE: Aside from "Stuck" and "Behavior/Harassment," all other categories have been deprecated by the staff. Do not try to open a ticket under any of these as you will receive a system message advising to use the Nostalrius bug tracker).
Image

Step #4: Click the "Still not working, Page a GM" button.
Ignore the context of talking about your character being unable to move or stuck in-game and simply proceed to click the "Still not working, Page a GM" button.
Image

Step #5: Fill out your ticket with the problem you're experiencing or the offending player(s) and as many details as possible.
The last step is providing the information about your in-game problem or the player(s) violating the Terms of Use to a GM. Be descriptive and thorough when making your ticket. Be sure to include the following information if possible to help speed things up:
  • A detailed description of the problem you're encountering and ways you've tried to fix it but have not worked.
  • The names and details of any quest givers, NPCs, items, or other stuff that involves the problem you're encountering and what the expected behavior might be.
  • If reporting other players, note the character names, levels, races, and classes of players discovered to be cheating, hacking, botting, gold selling, harassing other players, or any other violation of the Nostalrius Terms of Use.
  • If possible, take screenshots or videos of the problem or offending player(s), upload them to a free image or video hosting website, and link to them in your ticket to serve as "proof" for a GM to investigate.

FAQs

"Actually, I just need help with a simple question."

No problem. Here's a short and sweet FAQ with the topics most frequently asked about or requested in the Support forum. Please read each FAQ thoroughly before making a thread about it on the forums (So we can cut down on the number of redundant threads spamming the forums everyday)!

Q: I'm trying to register a new game account on the Nostalrius website but it shows an error message "Account creation limit reached." Why am I getting this error?
A: Nostalrius has a strict three newly registered accounts per IP limit. You cannot register more than three game accounts per IP, or the IP you're registering from already has three accounts associated with it (Apartment, flat, campus, etc.) registered by someone else.

In either situation, if more game accounts are desired, the best solution is to Google how to reset your modem or router's IP address (/release and /renew) and get a new IP address from your ISP. If resetting your IP address does not work, you can always try to register from another device or location. For example, try registering a game account from a mobile device such as a tablet or smartphone or from another computer that belongs to a friend or family member, work, or public place like a library or restaurant.

Q: It's been a long time since I last played and I forgot the Account Name I login with. How can I find out what my Account Name is?
A: If you've ever logged into WoW successfully, created a character, and actively played, you can verify what Account Name you've previously logged in with by browsing to the World of Warcraft Classic\WTF\Account folder on your computer. Inside the Account folder will be one or more sub-folders labeled with the Account Name(s) you've previously logged in with. You can also open these folders and open the "Nostalrius Begins" folder under them to see the names of the characters associated with the account.

Q: I forgot my game account's password. Is there a way I can reset it?
A: Account Passwords can be reset using the "Forgot your password?" link on the main Nostalrius website.

Q: I'm trying to reset my game account's password but I'm getting the error "Whoops! There was something wrong with your input: account used recently." What does this "account used recently" error mean?
A: Password resets can only be done on accounts that have not been played in 10 days or longer. If the account has been inactive for less than 10 days, the password reset feature will not work and will instead display an "account used recently" error message. This is to protect player accounts from malicious hackers trying to frequently reset an account owner's password. Nothing can be done except to wait for the full 10 days to pass before trying to reset the account's password. If the account is hacked/compromised for whatever reason and the hacker logs in daily, you will not be able to reset the game account's password, so be careful!

Q: I'm trying to reset my game account's password but I'm getting the error "Whoops! There was something wrong with your input: e-mail not found." What does this "e-mail not found" error mean?
A: The e-mail address you specified when trying to do a password reset is not associated with the game account you registered. Presently, Nostalrius does not offer any service to change the e-mail address associated with a game account, so simply put, you're using the wrong e-mail address to request a password reset. Try to remember the correct e-mail address you used when you first registered your game account. If the e-mail address has been forgotten, lost, hacked, or deactivated, there's little chance of recovering your Nostalrius WoW account, so be careful!

Q: If I know my game account's password and can login, is there a way I can change it instead of requesting a reset from the website?
A: Yes, there is a chat command to change your game account's password in the game itself. Once logged in and actively playing your character, it is highly recommended to enter an instance by yourself and type the following command in your chat window using /s:
  • /s: .account password oldpassword newpassword newpassword

".account password" is the chat command to initiate the password change process. "oldpassword" is your account's current password. "newpassword" is the password you want to change it to and must be entered twice for confirmation. For example, if your current password is "Thrall123" and you wanted to change it to "Garrosh456," the chat command would be entered like this:
  • /s: .account password Thrall123 Garrosh456 Garrosh456

The reason it is highly recommended to do this in an instance by yourself is in case if you accidentally mess up the chat command, you don't /say your current password to nearby players. Being in an instance by yourself ensures there are no other players around to see your account's password in the chat channels.

Q: I think my game account may have been hacked/compromised. How can I find out?
A: Use the Nostalrius Login web page to login and verify the status of the Account Name. Activity indicating when the account was last used as well as the IP address it was last logged in from will be displayed. Compare this information to the IP you typically login from and when you last played to determine if there's any suspicious activity on your account and reset the password if possible (Once 10 days have passed since the last activity on the account).

Q: I'm trying to log into my account on the Nostalrius website but I'm getting the error "Whoops! There was something wrong with your input. bad credentials" What does this "bad credentials" error mean?
A: Either the game account name or the password is wrong. Either the game account doesn't exist in the server, or the game account is valid but the password you're using is incorrect. More often than not, the password will be the culprit. Verify that you are trying to login using the correct game account name and password that you originally registered with.

If you've ever logged into WoW successfully, created a character, and actively played, refer to the second FAQ titled "How can I find out what my Account Name is?" to find out your game account name. If you're using the correct game account name but can't remember the password, refer to the third FAQ titled "Is there a way I can reset it?" to reset your game account's password.

Though unlikely, in extreme cases, if you get this error and are unable to login on the website and you're absolutely certain you're using the correct password, there's a possibility the account's been hacked/compromised. If possible, have a friend or guildmate login to see if your character is online and actively being played while you are offline, or register another game account and create a new character to see for yourself if your other character is online and actively being played.

If you can confirm if the account has been hacked/compromised, immediately try to reset the game account's password if possible. If the account has been logged and played within the last 10 days, it won't be possible to reset the password and you must wait for the hacker to stay logged out and the account inactive for at least 10 days before the password can be reset.

Q: I think my game account might have been banned. Is there a way to find out if I'm banned and if so, for how long?
A: Use the Nostalrius Login web page to login and verify the status of the Account Name. If you do not see any type of ban message and instead only see the IP address and date/time of when the game account was last played, then the account is not banned. If there is a ban on the account, the site will display the time remaining until the ban is lifted and the reason why the account was banned. Permanent bans will display a date in the past.

Please do not list your Account Name or e-mail address in your thread for privacy and security reasons.
Refer to Abathur's thread for more information on account banning.

Q: I'm trying to send one of the Nostalrius staff a private message but it says I cannot use this feature yet. How do I get private messaging enabled?
A: Newly created forum accounts must post at least one comment in any thread to enable private messaging. Just find any existing thread (Or start your own!) and make a post, then try sending the staff a private message again.

Q: What kind of information should I provide when sending a Nostalrius staff member a private message or creating a thread in the Support forum seeking help with a problem?
A: For login and account-related issues, if being handled secretly through a private message, include your account name and details regarding your account. If being handled publicly on the forums, only list the name of your character you play on. For security reasons, do not post your Account Name. GMs and administrators are able to look up account information linked to your character name.

For hardware, bugs, other in-game issues, or just questions in general, provide as much information as you can pertaining to the error you're getting or the problem you're encountering or inquiring about. Consider sharing the following items when you make a thread. These will help others troubleshoot your issue:
  • Screenshots of any errors or problems perceived in the game.
  • Documentation of exact error messages, word-for-word.
  • Steps to reproduce the problem you're encountering if applicable.
  • What actions have you taken to try to resolve the problem already.
  • Brief description of the hardware you're playing on and the client files you're using (OS, edition, official Nostalrius client or a client from another server/website, etc.)

Q: I've found a bug in the game. Where do I go to report it?
A: Please use the Nostalrius Bug Tracker to report all in-game bugs or check the status of any existing bugs. Refer to eXperienCe's thread for more information on reporting bugs.

Contacting the Nostalrius Staff

"None of these solved my problem. How can I get more help or contact the Nostalrius staff?"

Please keep in the mind the above solutions are meant only as a guide. There's still the possibility they won't resolve your problem if it stems from something else. As more information becomes available, this guide will be updated.

If you're not experiencing any of the above errors or if the proposed solutions do not fix your problem and you would like further assistance with general troubleshooting of your account, login, or connectivity issues, you can make a new thread in the Account Issues subforum, or for any other in-game problems, you can make a new thread in the Support forum or even send a private message to one of the GMs or administrators with your Account Name, account details, and the nature of your problem or question.

If you don't necessarily have a problem or question but instead have feedback or suggestions that you think would make the forums or game server better, please share them in the Suggestions forum. Thanks and good luck!

Hello AverageJoe,

first of all, thank you for your effort to post this. It's very informative and solves pretty much the basic issues posted in the Support category.

I hope you're okay with it, when I add this post to the sticky ones.

Regards,
GM Team

Hello i was playing with my friend Darkprayer, and we have been banned.. After that, he sent a message to explain the problem, and he has been debanned. I've tried to connect but i'm still banned..
I want to know if the problem is that we play together on the same Wi-Fi.
Thanks.

An automatic procedure will be available soon.

Spreading this so others know. Hope this gets fixed soon as I've been unable to play for 3 days.

should be interesting to precise that in order to avoid on-files permissions problems, when you make a fresh install, create a folder (eg : Nostalrius) at the root of your drive, and change the path to install the game into it. For example, you'll get :
c:\Nostalrius\Data
c:\Nostalrius\Documentation
c:\Nostalrius\Errors
c:\Nostalrius\Interface
c:\Nostalrius\Logs
c:\Nostalrius\Screenshots
... and so on
For best results, put the Nostalrius folder on an other drive/partition than the System one (if you can)
Please use the SEARCH function. Please...

^ Yeah I had two threads where users were saying none of their options/preferences were saving after logging out, but when they moved the World of Warcraft Classic folder to their root letter drive (C:\), it started working. I noted this in the new "General Troubleshooting" section.

New installs should be placed in a location outside the Program Files directory.
Existing installs can simply be cut and pasted on the root letter drive without affecting the game itself.

Average Joe, could you add a segment about the ports that WoW requires to be open and the IP addresses of the server, found in this post:

I looked through the sticky topics but could not find info regarding my issue ("Logging in to game server").

At first I get "Success" message, after waiting half a minute or so a window for choosing a realm appears. I choose "Nostalrius Begins", press okay and get stuck at "Logging in to game server". After waiting another half a minute or so the window with realms appears again. Same story, I choose "Nostalrius Begins", press okay and then again stuck at "Logging in to game server".

I am using 1.12.1 enGB client. My realmlist.wtf:
CODE: SELECT ALL
set realmlist login.nostalrius.org
set realmname "Nostalrius Begins"

Tried login2.nostalrius.org too. Also tried to change WoW.exe with the uncorrupted one from Beginner's Guide, delete WDB, WTF and addons. Tried to disable firewall (although WoW is in <Allow everything> category) .Nothing changed.

I have no clue what causes my problem, i was playing just fine yesterday before work, and now when i am trying to get in to play some, i get the message Connecting - - - - - - - - - Disconnected from server.
Nothing changed since yesterday, except i cant log in at all. My install is not in the Program Files, and i already have 25+ days played with this install. Anyway i tried both realmlists, deleted WTF and WDB and i still get the same thing, Disconnected from server. its like "Connecting" for about 10-15 sec, and then "disconnected from server" . seriously why things like this allways happen to me. nothing changed at all and i could play just fine like 15 hours ago.. Please help me out if you can, tyvm.
