no, certainly not 20x higher.. maybe 2x

I am quite sure this server can handle more people in the same area than the old retail ones. But retail could support several thousands. just not all in the same area..

Im pretty sure blizzards server couldnt handle half of people that i saw at undead starting without delaying for few seconds or become unplayable due to lag.

Back in the day, there were 48 servers
(source: http://www.wowwiki.com/Timeline_of_the_creation_of_US_realms)

There were "over 100,000" playing concurrently on launch.
(source: http://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/2416157033)

The second reference says there were 40 servers originally.

So, roughly speaking, each server had a capacity of 2083 to 2500 players.

So I am impressed that Nostalrius can handle a much larger capacity of players. However, this also gives credence to the arguments that respawn rates should be higher in all zones - at least until this initial surge of players levels.

Having played on a few fresh launch servers (with queues) in retail, I have to agree that Nost seems to have significantly MORE players than blizzard servers, which is quite impressive. It makes the current respawns particularly brutal though.

good point.

and I read a internet story about the hardware used back in 2004. Compared to much cheaper equipment today it really was crap... So it is only logical that nostalrius can handle more, they will have much better hardware. Of course knowing how to use that hardware is the big accomplishment here. A job very well done.!

So if we split Nostalrius in two, the pop on each server will be equal to a high population server of vanilla.

I know I m just repeating what just has been told, but damn, that's impressive!
