The price of black lotus will drop after aq comes out so as long as you get 3-5 for flasks you should be fine. Farming 500g over a month or two isn't difficult.

Flask of titans makes Cthun waaaaaaaaay easier. It enables you get lazer bounced (1 bounce) and not die, big tentacles won't 1-2 shot clothies/leather. Lets you stay in stomach longer for dps. Do you NEED to do it? No, but it makes the encounter significantly easier.

Wow is made for hardcore noobs, players who invest a lot of time but aren't particularly good at the game. When you get a good group (and with good I mean good) you don't need world buffs, potions and current level gear.

Most of the items are unneeded and overkill. All they do is provide more leeway for screw ups and increase the time spend on the game.
