Aren't you required to have a warrior for Illidan for shear? Or can paladins block that with holy shield?

Holy shield is amazing earlier on especially on Prince Malchezzar where paladins can be avoidance capped for the entire fight (even in mostly blue gear).
I always remember warriors tanking Illidan though, our paladin usually melted in a couple hits.

You still only used one per raid due to their low personal DPS. I remember Rets capping out at like 2k or so on Brutallus, and my personal best was 2850.

Ideally you will want one of each class, since they all have different strengths and weaknesses.

Warrior:
Pros:
  • The only class to be able to MT every raid boss in the game viably.
  • Takes the least amount of magical damage and the least amount of damage overall on bosses that can crush.
  • Shield block allows them to push most crushing blows off of the table even in greens.
Cons:
  • Their threat scales horribly with gear and they do the least amount of threat in SwP.
  • Good luck AoE tanking with them.
  • Practically useless when they aren't getting constant rage.

Druid:
Pros:
  • Only class to be able to reach armor cap and they are unrivaled in their hp pool. This means that they take the least amount of damage from bosses that can't crush by a significant amount.
  • Can do decent dps in cat form when they aren't tanking something.
  • Best for single target threat in SwP.
Cons:
  • There is no possible way for them to avoid crushing blows. This means that they are terrible for tanking things that deal magic based melee damage and can crush.
  • If you don't like BGs, too bad! They need resilience gear to reach def cap early on.
  • They have no talents for magical damage reduction.

Paladin:
Pros:
  • The only class with strong burst threat when they don't have aggro.
  • Their AoE threat DESTROYS warrior's and druid's
  • They are the only class that can completely push crushing blows off of the table if they have 76.4% avoidance + block.
Cons:
  • They are screwed when silenced.
  • They don't have any defensive cooldowns worth using.
  • Their health pool is the lowest.
