And how do we know if they client is a direct wow.exe and not a custom client. I downloaded the one from Excalibur private server. Will this one be ok to use?

You use common sense. Does it say wow.exe ? Then use it. Does it say <server name>launcher.exe ? Don't use it.

Of course not. PTR will be wiped, possibly multiple times, during the testing process. This is not an opportunity to "get ahead" of other players. This is an opportunity to test content and help us create the best possible TBC realm.
