Potion effects being purged

Just had a shaman purge Free Action Potion off of me.

Are potion effects supposed to be dispellable?

I believe so, potions count as magical effects. Spellstones and Garr from Molten Core both remove all buffs whether spell, potion, or food.

Those potions were too strong for you traveler. You can't handle those potions.

Potions were considered magic buffs in the beginning of wow, it was changed sometime during vanilla. can't remember when.

If it were changed during vanilla it would be in effect on this server. Despite being in "patch 1.5", mechanics and such are all 1.12.1, which was the last patch of pre-TBC.

One of the early patches (1.2 or 1.3) made it so that elixir/flask effects can't be purged, but I don't remember reading anything about potion effects.

Patch 1.3.0 (07-Mar-2005): The effects of flasks and elixirs are no longer dispellable. This should make their use more compelling in PvP situations.

That was what I could find, nothing on potions though.
