Info about classes' value

Hi so I might start to play here but I need answers to these questions because I don't wanna play something that turns out to be useless:

1. Best DPS specs in order (obviously depends on player, but overall) -- both for mid-geared and later on

2. same but for Healing

3. same for Tanking

I'm mostly thinking about shadow priest, ret/prot pala, any hunter, but obviously not opposed to other classes.

If any veterans out here could help me out, that would be appreciated.

Priests heal (with one raid slot for a spriest, maybe).
Paladins heal.
Warriors tank or dps.
Shamans heal.
Druids heal.

Everything else dpses and earns at least one spot.

Welcome to Vanilla enjoy your stay.

1. DPS - Every DPS class has one viable spec and can get a raid spot. Plus Warriors and one Shadow Priest per raid.

2. Heals - Every healing/hybrid class can heal viably and get a spot.

3. Tanks - Only Warriors.

To apply critical thinking to your specific classes:
Ret/Prot Paladin - No
Hunter - Yes
Shadow Priest - Maybe. Finding a spot will be hard. Your DPS is good until you're OOM (which happens instantly) and then you're just a debuff bot for Warlocks. Which is why only one is brought.

Welcome to Vanilla. Enjoy your stay.

Like I said, all pure DPS classes can get a spot in a raid.

So Mages are fine. Fire is great. Until MC/BWL, then it's Frost for a bit.

Many of your questions could be answered easily by scanning the class forums and seeing what Raid guides are stickied.

Not only that, they could be answered by googling "Vanilla WoW class guide" or something.

^ guy outlvls the content he's tanking by 5-6 levels.
Sadly you can't get lvl 65 for tanking raids, which is why prot paladin is shit.

@OP
To raid as ret/prot paladin you need a bad guild.
To raid as shadow priest you need either a bad guild or a guild that needs a shadow priest (since you only need one per guild, extremely unlikely).
Hunters are viable but there's plenty of them and a raid doesn't need more than 3.

Standard raid composition is roughly -
3 tanks, 3-4 fury warriors, 5 rogues, 3 hunters, 5 mages, 5 warlocks, 4 paladins, 4 priests, 2-3 druids, fill the rest with whatever (usually 1 shadowpriest or extra dps from whichever class). This is a good indication of how likely you're to get a raid spot based on what class you're playing.
