Very high up, probably at the top. However, I tried to keep this list free of items that are subject to drastic change in future patches.

What about the Sergeant's Cape and First Sergeant's Bracers? I can see the cape being above the brd one and the bracers being above the valor set unless you're getting that +200 armour bonus. I guess a counter argument would be the lack of agility but I figure the extra armour on the cape makes it a worthwhile choice. Easy gear to get too since it's only rank 3 and 5 iirc.

I didnt include them since they would be so far down the list at around 5th or 6th place. They arent bad though.

I honestly prefer this build http://db.vanillagaming.org/?talent#LA0bZVZEizotMdVo (10/5/36) for tanking over your build since improved heroic strike is more helpful than improved sunder for tanking bosses on drunk farm. Your guide is really nice though since it saves me the trouble of having a "shopping list" for gearing up my new warrior on the PvE server.

The reason 1/3 HS and 3/3 Sunder will benefit you more in most situations is because Sunder will often be used as a substitute för HS in low-rage situations, while HS will be used (read spammed) when ever you are rage-capped already, meaning the lower rage cost of 3/3 imp HS wont really matter to begin with.

For example: In a situation where you are constantly above 50 rage, a 2 point cheaper HS wont matter at all, while 3/3 Sunder instead will help you alot in low-rage situations such as Onyxia (which hits like a newborn kitten).

In the end, the difference between the two specs are very minor though.

Hey, just wanted to let you know that it seems like the savage gladiator breastplate gets its dps switch in 1.10, found this comment on an archived page of allakhazam

new stats after patch 1.10=+13 stam,+14 agi,+13 strength
still 2% to crit but lose the+13 defense

If that's true, then it means it'll stay a tanking item for 5 more months (11 on the pve server).

Seems to be the same for the Deathbone set

I got a nice surprise when I logged on this morning. I suppose I won't have to worry about replacing these for a while.

Although a bit more vague, that comment was posted the day after 1.10 went live on retail (march 28 2006), and looking at the other pieces there are multiple comments about the +defence from march-may 2006, so it can be assumed the whole set was changed in the same patch.

To add to St0rfan's example:

BWL:

Razorgore - tanks are rage starved between tank swaps = 3/3 imp sunder wins.
Broodlord: - tanks are rage starved between tank swaps = 3/3 imp sunder wins.
Chromag: - Secondary tank is rage starved during first minute of fight when you have to anticipate time lapse and dps have to stay under second tank until you learn breaths = 3/3 imp sunder wins. (assuming first attempt)

Val: Rage capped = 3/3 imp heroic strike is a waste in this fight.
3 drakes: Rage capped = 3/3 imp heroic strike is a waste in this fight.
Nef: Rage capped = 3/3 imp heroic strike is a waste in this fight.

You pick a spec based off the content you are in, not "drunk easy mode" content. You can swap def gear for hit gear in these types of situations. Better than gimping yourself with a spec to make past raids easier. There isn't 1 example of a boss that 3/3 imp heroic strike is better than 3/3 imp sunder in BWL.

That being said, this is if are wanting to forgo Impale spec for a heavy tank spec with 5/5 cruelty. Using the Impale spec you will be choose between 2/3 improved heroic strike vs 4/5 tactical mastery. I chose the 2/3 Imp heroic strike due to a 40 man environment you will have other tanks that can Thunderclap until your guild is blessed with a Thunderfury.

Hi!

I just stumbled upon a green "Hyperion helm of defense" http://db.vanillagaming.org/?item=10388. It has a sick amount of defense, +19, which is quite a bit after the recent patch i thought.

How does this compare to Golem Skull Helm http://db.vanillagaming.org/?item=11746 ? Its basically +12 def vs. +18 stam and str.

Also Legplates of the Eternal Guardian http://db.vanillagaming.org/?item=11927 suddently seems weak to its competitors statwise. Same goes for Stoneform Shoulders http://db.vanillagaming.org/?item=13955 (apart from the +armor ^^).

Sacrificing stamina for def is rarely worth it, especially in pre-raid, ZG and MC since defcap isnt needed anyways. You should go with the Golem Skull helm.
