Rogue weapon speed

Rogue weapon speed

Hey guys,

Apologies if there is already a guide for this. Just checking that what I had already thought was correct.

With combat, do we want the MH to have the slowest wep speed possible (am I right in thinking that having a higher damage range for each hit makes instant attacks hit harder or is this normalised for wep speed?) and OH to have the fastest wep speed possible?

I'm pretty sure that if your going Combat then you will want a slow main hand weapon for the bigger Sinister Strike damage (and Riposte if you have it). Having a fast offhand weapon is better because it will give more chances for your poisons to proc.

If you're sword spec, you want slower weapon mainhand for sinister strike damage.

You want a fast offhand because sword spec procs that occur in the offhand trigger swings in the mainhand.

Just to clarify, Sinister strike is fully dependent on the damage ranges of an item (such as 46-84). Speed suggests the range is higher, but exact numbers are more direct in helping you compare the damage expectancy. No normalization.

Attack Power contribution IS normalized for abilities like Sinister Strike. But that doesn't change the fact that damage range > All, indeed. Since it's normalized, the speed in itself isn't alone a good indicator (altough it suggests a higer range, as said above).

As for the source and more infos :
"Patch 1.8.0 (patch date:2005-10-10): Now uses normalized attack power."

Not many weeks ago I spoke with Pottu, which clarified a few of these questions. He could not verify for sure about the normalization, but he assumed that the normalization was implemented and this is why:

Nostalrius is currently running 2 different patches. There is the server patch (running 1.12.1) and then the client patch (running 1.4 atm, 1.6(?) when BWL releases). The server patch is responsible for the class balancing, normalization etc. Everything else, like quests, database etc comes from the client patch (which is why you for example cannot get the quest "Southsea Shakedown")

General case: The slower weapon in MH the better.

There can be some very special cases in which a MH that is faster can be beneficial with the right enchants, granted the case is of boosting the MH white damage to the extent that it cancels out the loss attributed from SS going towards a faster weapon (1.7< speed).
