Social / Night Elf Guild - idea thread

Hello Nos community,

As I was unable to find an active social/rp guild these past days, I felt a little disappointed. The one thing I miss during the Vanilla era was the whole social experience and doing things other than questing and grinding.

Now, I come to you with an idea of creating a small Night Elf only guild specifically suited for adventurers willing to spend time socializing and grouping up to take part in PVP/Guild events (even a little RP).

I would like to see if any like-minded laid-back players are willing to help create a small community; an ideal place to share stories, ideas, thoughts and opinions with others. For me, the biggest problem with modern MMOs is that most have basically turned into a server-based single player game. You see some other players running around, but social interaction is minimal and in most cases none. Everyone is generally busy with grinding levels, needing on mats, earning game gold, completing quests before others, etc.

My general idea it to have a small, yet active community that shares a different approach toward the game.

As the server's population allows it, I would like to see your thoughts on the matter. Please leave your comments or contact me - IGN Eveya (I will also respond to ingame mail).

Thank you for your time and have a good one!

Hey that's racist!

On a serious note, although viable for the RP reason, you would alienate players who perhaps don't want a "singleplayer" experience as you put it, but aren't night elves. But if you make exceptions maybe I'll be on board, or eventually when I make a nelf alt. :p Best of luck though!

Hey there and thanks for commenting!

What I initially posted is still an idea-in-progress. Nothing is set in stone and may take a totally different route eventually. However, my initial idea is to experiment with this and see where it goes.

On retail vanilla there were many guilds that just took the game at their own pace. Nothing extreme, nothing special, no server achievements, no server firsts – just played the game their own way. They were free to experiment with class specs, train professions that their class would least benefit, etc. They did so, because most did not even know how to play their class – but still had a blast!

This 'different approach' is, no doubt, not the brightest of ideas. Loot-wise/ time-wise/ game-wise - this is truly absurd. But why? Well, it would give you that feeling of uncertainty and will create a need for group discussion. Recreating this would be hard considering that this is a 10+ year old game and tons of guides, builds, strategies, add-ons are available.

With this in mind, a single character race guild would bring back some of the need for discussion/trial &error. It would bring new challenges, as it limits your arsenal of available skills. You may have use alternatives such as some engineering/alchemy items.

Personally, I see brainstorming as a process that sits in the very core of the social experience. With this aspect missing, a large chuck of the trial and error goes with it. It would encourage people to think outside the box, instead of going online and reading the best possible strategy. The new approach requires new strategies, new concepts and I'd expect a different overall experience – for better or worse.

Now, this is what I initially had in mind regarding the character race choice:
Gnomes don't have a healer class.
Humans have access to all classes but hunters and druids. I feel that they would not be able to provide that level of difficulty needed.
For the final choice between Dwarves or Night Elves, I'd choose Night Elves purely for aesthetic and lore reasons. The class difference being the Paladin/Druid swap (not counting racial/priest skills).

Please see this as an open discussion for an alternative game play experience. Everything mentioned is in the 'idea phase' and I look forward to each and every comment.

You seem to have given this some serious thought I'll give you that. And what you describe is kinda what I'm looking for when I introdice my gf (she loves elves anyways lol) and maybe a friend or two to vanilla, as much as I love the hardcore stuff, I believe the community is what can make or break a game.

The most important thing then, would be to establish a proper goal for the guild. Purely social and evolve from there once there's a nice and friendly atmosphere going on, or focus into a different niche? Would also like to suggest "mercenaries" to be hired by the guild on special occasions, these could follow the ruleset of night elves or at least respect instead of pee in them moon wells, while on employment. Although to keep it in RP and according to your vision, this could be used for very special circumstances (e.g. filling in certain class slots should raiding be a thing), among other things.

I believe there is a night elf only guild, with several 60s already mind you. <Starlight Sentinels> and the GM being a warrior named Anshara. I don't know much about them, other than the guild ad and sparse contact, but I believe they are a social / wPvP guild.

The goal as I see it is to recreate the past experience when players did not know how to play the game. A possible way to partially achieve this would be to create a type of restriction (i.e. the choice of character race). The game developers knew exactly what they were doing and added a huge amount of items and consumables to help a number of possible class combinations succeed. I would think this approach as hard, but not impossible. If for any reason the raid encounter it too overwhelming, hiring 'mercenaries' would indeed be an option.

All in all, I'd like to experience all the raid content gradually and also form PvP groups until reset. Guild events may include Druid triathlons, Hunter kiting competitions, Rogue races in Horde cities, a group of Night Elves all with Shadowmeld in a PvP area just waiting to ambush, speaking Darnassian in /say chat, etc.

The first step at this point would be to find players willing to dedicate their time and patience with this type of project. Maintaining a guild is a team effort. Also just to point out, I'd like for a guild that's transparent in decision making. Any loot distributed will be with /roll. None of that 'hardcore' loot council, reserved items, dkp, etc. No single player (where it be leader, officer, member, or new recruit) will decide beforehand who would get the raid loot. Basically keeping the game simple and enjoyable.

Should enough players find this type of game play appealing, I will take the initiative to create a small webpage/board for us to have a place to share ideas and build upon there. Something else I'd like to discuss in the future, would be to create short videos to capture the guild's adventures.

@Dr. Doom
I did see the guild thread you mentioned. There weren't any online when I initially searched on /who, perhaps it may have been due to bad timing from my end. I may indeed get in touch with them.

On a side note, as someone with experience of running a gnome/dwarf guild, would mind to share a bit more? I'm curious to know if there is a need for this type of guild and if possible to share a few thoughts of your journey so far.

@Eveya

Either way I'm interested in joining, perhaps even helping out a bit on this project. But I'm most likely levelling a human rogue first, and a nelf alt at a later point. Haven't decided yet but should do within a few days.
