Boomkins do have Innervate and, assuming they aren't giving it to a healer, they should not be running OOM. Assuming the RL is doing his job the composition should be such that a Boom would have it's own innervate available.

Here's another thing to consider. Some guilds don't run a full 40 man raid so it could be even more of a stretch to look for a raid spot if your guild falls under this category. In fact, for later raids with a smaller raid force, it just wouldn't be feasible to have a Boomkin in there unless the composition was exactly right.

Could have sworn that Innervate was the 31-point Resto talent...

But still, boomkin isn't brought for DPS, they're brought for 3% crit for the real caster DPS classes, and to innervate the priests.

If the RL is doing his job, there won't be space in the raid for a spec that's inferior to any other cloth DPS AND needs their own innervate to even function at all.

Any kind of "utility" of balance druid can be done easily (and probably better) by a resto druid without wasting a raid slot on a big owl. +3% crit for a total of 4 raid members is negligible at best.

Of course. It was just under the assumption the comp was accounting for the Boom to function at the highest level.

We didn't look for a boomie, but we came across one early on that we're happy with. Close to 100% attendance so we bring him. Granted, he is a bit of a mascot by now.

Sometimes we do get laughed at for bringing 1 boomie, I say up yours to all the tryhards that think you need to minmax so hard for god damn vanilla content that 40/40 players have to be cookie-cutter level specs. Get good.

A guy on Warsong(?) got a balance druid working to the point where he was regularly top 5 dps in Naxx on most encounters without using any personal debuff slots. It takes a pretty good amount of effort and you need to use every single mana and regen consumable available to you, but it does work. Boomkin DPS is actually extremely high as long as they can keep pumping out starfires and don't run out of mana.

One of the big tricks is having a max spirit weapon and swapping to it every single time you spend even a second moving or otherwise not casting, and also for when you innervate yourself.

It definitely isn't doable before AQ gear, and not by most players, and I would never ever take more than one in a raid. But it can be done, if you know how to do it.

From the min:max perspective that most raid leaders and raiding guilds take on this game, a moonkin is not worth taking.

A moonkin will never do more damage than bringing another warlock or rogue. Even at insane gear levels, the moonkin will always struggle with poor itemization, competing with clothies for loot, and never having a curse of elements to rely on. Even the crit buff actually counts for very little when you do the math.

However, for the small handful of players who realize that min:maxing is not necessarily to thrive in this game, it's tolerable to bring along a moonkin if that's what someone wants to play. It's not so bad that it'll tank your whole raid, and the lack of damage is partially recoverable with the utility of a battlerez/innervate.

In the end, the secret to being successful in WoW is having 40 happy raiders who want to show up every week, and if playing a moonkin makes you happy, that's all that matters.

Full pre raid bis moonkin - around 300 dps without bloodvine set. Only on short fights tho. Long fights..... Useles
