Alright, so.
Ignite gives you 210% increased critical damage instead of 200%, fireball instead of frostbolt means you get 100% of your spellpower instead of 81,4%.
I've counted the total SP from my supposed BiS list for AQ40 and found it to be 914 SP.
I've counted the intelligence on the gear and I got the intelligence to give approx. 6%, world buffs give you ~19% (~+1 from hakkar) and gear + brilliant wizard oil give you another 9%. Critical Mass gives 6% and combustion gives 1-5% depending on the length of the fight and your crit chance (low crit chance and short fight makes combustion best). This gives you a total of ~42% with world buffs (valuing combustion as 2%) and ~24% without (valuing combustion as 3%).
The hit should be 98%.
using the BiS (which I will update this thread to when aq40 gets a couple of days within release), I get these numbers:
1 crit = 13.86 SP without world buffs (24)
1 crit = 11.98 SP with world buffs (42)
1 hit = 16.25 SP
if you instead have 764 sp (not flasking):
1 crit = 12.55 SP without world buffs
1 crit = 10.85 SP with world buffs
1 hit = 14.72 SP
So far, the only interesting slot that made this worth it was the head slot, Enigma Circlet vs Mish'undare. it comes down to 1 hit (enigma circlet) vs the 2 sp and 1 crit of Mish'undare.
As you see, Enigma Circlet is slightly better, where the two closest scenarios are when you dont have any world buffs. With flask theres a 0.39 sp advantage for mish'undare and without flask that advantage is 0.17 sp. Obviously these are very small numbers and you may just as well wear the fanciest one (Enigma Circlet *cough* *cough*).
Then we have Enigma Shoulderpads vs Mantle of the Blackwing Cabal, where we need to figure out if spellpen does anything at all, and if it does, how much. the difference here is 10 spell pen vs 4 SP.
Some things may not be in the game on release, and if that's the case, things will have to be adjusted. Hopefully the aq40 PTR will give more information on boss resistances and items.
I haven't looked into the ignite mechanics anything at all, so this is just the starting point where I assume your ignites will always be up and always deal all of its damage. (yeah this means I've done basically nothing at all so far)
