Weapon Skill in PVP

Weapon Skill in PVP

Hey guys.

So I have done some research, and to my understanding, weapon skill affects your hit rate, and also reduces the likelihood of doing glancing blows.

However, I am unsure of whether weapon skill does anything in PvP. Some people say it does, some say it doesn't.

If weapon skill does affect your hitrate, then surely it is at least somewhat beneficial in PvP. If you don't do glancing blows on players, then the hitrate must help at least a little bit.

But at the same time, when I have a weapon with 1 skill in it, and use it in PvP, the game treats it as if I have 300 in that weapon skill. How would this work, exactly? Does it increase my base value to 300, then add all other weapon skills (from racials and items) to that value; or does it change it to 300 regardless of items and racials?

Basically, what I am asking, is how important is weapon skill in PvP? I want to make an Ally warrior for PvP and can't decide between Human and Night Elf. If weapon skill has little to no effect in PvP, then I'll go Night Elf.

Thanks :D

Haha thanks for the replies, guys, but it doesn't really answer my question.

Does weapon skill do anything in PvP?

I think that it also increases your chance to land a critical blow. Every point by 0.04% Didn't confirm but I saw my crit chance increase by training a wep. I think it also applied same on pvp
Was good to have you all

When I went enhance to farm av rep some time ago, it did feel like my damage went up loads after I slayed 500 wolves to go from 1-295ish. Might just be placebo effect, but yeah.

Yeah it definitely works against NPCs, but it's against players that I'm unsure of.

Weapon skill affects glancing blows, right? If so, are glancing blows done against players? Or is glancing blows just a PvE thing?

You are right in saying it treats low wep skill as if it were 300 in PvP. Also, glancing blows are just a PVE thing.

To my knowledge, Any extra wep skill in PVP really only helps with two things.

1 - Help reduce your miss chance. With one handed weapons more so than two handed. I've not done any two handed PvP in a while so I cannot say if there is a 2H miss chance or what the % is in PVP. However, there is still quite a serious miss chance with 1H weapons. Though if you've talented into hit chance you can bypass hit gear for the most part.

2 - Counter a players' dodge chance. Though it really only affects your battles with rogues and hunters. By such a small amount that it isn't worth looking into. Esp when they just pop evasion/ghost strike/deterrence.

IMO, I'd take crit gear over hit any day for PvP.

Thanks, man. Does that mean the extra weapon skill is useless for the glancing blows in PvP, and only benefits from a SLIGHTLY higher hit chance?

Yes. Glancing blows are something that comes from a mix of attacking something that's higher level than you, has a high defense skill and If you don't have the proper hit rating for whatever level it is.

If you are level 60, then you don't have to worry about that. As there are no players higher level than 60.

There is only one small area of unknown. And that's if a player is stacking defense. ( Like stupid amounts from raids ) Which any smart player would not do. If they were going tank spec in a BG for any reason. They would know stam and resist gear is FAR better than defense. Even if they did, it would not mean much at all.

On top of all this, i'm still not sure it's even possible for a player to get a glancing blow from another player.
