I think it's worthwhile to distinguish between PvP and ranking. If you want to rank, join premades and farm AB. If you're looking for PvP, it exists in almost every zone in the game assuming you play on the PvP server.

AB and WSG are just tools to allow rankers to honor grind. The entirety of Azeroth on an immensely populated server is at your disposal if it's fun, pure PvP you're looking for. And it doesn't really matter what faction you play then because it's about 50/50.
