PvPHonorSystem Breakpoints update

by Irachkom » Fri Feb 19, 2016 7:57 pm

As everyone knows, vanilla was created to meet 2004/5/6 standarts. We meet this problem and fixed it by Dynamic Respawn Rates.
But why there is no anything like this in Rank Grinding?
Original PvP system wasn't ideal, blizzards noticed this and updated it during 1.12 patch, by lowering "cut-off" from 25HK to 15HK and changed the breakpoints, placing more people in the highest brackets for faster rank gaining at top ranks. Also they updated PvP items, making em suitable to Naxxramas times.

Why they did this? Because more ppl raised their skill, during that times there was birth of "PvP players", so more and more players are joining honor race to gain ranks, competition starts to ruin PvP, so they added this options to release this destructive tension.

Now we have much more active PvP players than there were during vanilla wow, we got even more pvp players than during TBC times.
Thats why high rank grind is so mad here, ppl forced to brainless farm more than 1.000.000 honor per EACH week. Most PvPers are forced to stop PvPing after getting R10-R11 because R12-13-14 have gamebreaking competition, most likely that Runed Arcanite Rod recipe situation.

Thats blizzlike brackets(pre-1.12 and 1.12) :

My suggestion is:
1. Fix https://report.nostalrius.org/plugins/tracker/?aid=3861 to its 1.12 state
2. Change breakpoints from 1.12 to those ones:

0.005 12 000 - 13 000 RP
0.012 11 000 - 11 999 RP
0.025 10 000 - 10 999 RP
0.049 9 000 - 9 999 RP
0.085 8 000 - 8 999 RP
0.145 7 000 - 7 999 RP
0.277 6 000 - 6 999 RP
0.397 5 000 - 5 999 RP
0.497 4 000 - 4 999 RP
0.597 3 000 - 3 999 RP
0.697 2 000 - 2 999 RP
0.797 1 000 - 1 999 RP
0.897 400 - 999 RP
1.000 0 - 399 RP

There is comparison table of "my system" to blizzlike 1.12 and blizzlike pre-1.12(% is total % of players in this bracket):

So, yes, this system will push more ppl from very low brackets(they are filled mostly by low lvl players/TOTALLY passive to PvP players) to mid brackets and a very little bit to high brackets.

Best regards!
Irachkom.

While this would be a welcomed and necessary change (since we're supposed to have 1.12 mechanics), I would rather see a change in the queue system first.

Great post nonetheless, I hope it gets read, noticed and taken into account whenever they realize the ranking system is simply garbage at the moment and decide to fix it.

But I think, amount of players in top 1-4/1-5 brackets should be higher than you suggest by at least ~50% (1-st br from 0.005 to 0,007/0,008; 2-nd br from 0.012 to 0,018/0,020; 3-rd from 0.025 to 0,036-0,040; 4- from 0.049 to ~0,058 etc)

Since we're using fucked up ranking system, players are forced to farm over 900k honor per week to gain high ranks. During my retail exp top 5 standings was like between 250-400k honor, each side had max 20-30-40 active PvP players with other ones mostly casuals. And we got more than 500x players per side who are active PvP.

Read: we have ~10x times higher PvP population than there was during 2005-2006 years and we still using old-one PvP system rank formulas (I'm liar, since we're using even more nerfed PvP system compared to 1,12 version)

Tbh i See WAY more r14 ppl here than i Ever saw retail .... (Ofc thats due to the 4-5x pop)
Even buffing the availability only slightly would be utterly wrong in my point of view since farming 900k rep a Week for high Ranks was common too back in the days. (On highly active pvp Servers)
Everyone agrees that farming r14 is 1% skill 99% time.... Vanilla pvp Ranks have always been shit.
For serious pvp instead of grind... I suggest u wait for tbc.

There is ~10x times higher population than on very high populated servers back to 2006, or 20x-25x times higher than average realm.
And yeah, getting 900k a week never was common even to hardcore PvPers.

The way the honor system works is percentage based on total population. The more people in the honor system, the more people can reach the higher tiers of the weekly rank points. It already it set dynamically and is not an issue on Nostalrius.

As for the amount of honor being farmed, it's more easily explained by play style differences than something that is a result of higher population.
