I am sorry but your assertion "Quality is what's going to win in the end" has been proven false by my experience in the private server game. I played on Rebirth for a long time and it was of great quality yet never had more players than ED (which i also played on extensively but can say was worse quality) . What i have determined is that if a server has average or better scripts the one that attracts the most people is the one that has the most players (as someone else mentioned previously).

Agreed, same thing have been observed in the french servers community.

A release before xmas would also be great because a lot of people have more time to play at this time of the year, so it would be a more dynamic start hopefully. Let's try to reach whatever goal the devs have before Kronos opens.

This sounds optimistic to me! They still have a lot of low level dungeons far from complete, which seems especially important at release as everyone will be leveling, and it's the first pve impressions of many players... Their Alterac is not ready yet either, so I really look forward to try our new/old version soon. Maybe we can get more attention thanks to this event.

I am also sorry, but your experience has been proven false by my experience :D The thing with Rebirth was that it would have gathered way more players than ED, if all those bad things wouldn't have occurred on RB. I swear to god, every time the population got up to 500 or more players, something awful happened.

For example? RB was released in Sept/Oct 2011. The population was rising but then BOOM, Skyrim and COD Black Ops were released and everybody jumped on those.
Then the population was rising again, but then BOOM, a database error caused a rollback and those who were annoyed (a lot) left.
After a few weeks population started to rise again and after a few months it was all fine again, but then BOOM, some GM fucked something up in the server settings. So everyone who logged in after that mistake found their characters empty (no items, no skills, no professions, etc).
People left again and after a few months population came back up. But then again BOOM, Blizzard lawsuit. The server was down for weeks, nobody knew if it ever would appear again.
People left. Population got back up. Major problems occurred again (DDoS attacks, server exploits, Scriptcraft, and much more). Up to the point right now, where RB is down again for weeks.

So, to end this long story, quality did indeed attract a lot of people and there were many folks coming from ED and falling in love with the quality. I, personally, am tired of all those problems on RB and I doubt that Blizz will ever let go of them. But I hope that Nostalrius will not face the same struggles and I do see quality as a major factor for success and a big population. Besides that, other advantages of Nostalrius are things like controlled roll out of raids according to original timeline, sticking to Blizzlike features (respec costs,...) and not providing character auctions.
And even if with all these factors Nostalrius will not gather as much people as Kronos, the community on a high quality server will always be better. See ED, it attracts all kinds of scum and idiots, while a smaller server like RB had a tight and nice community, which held together (mostly) and all trolls and trouble makers were driven away pretty quick from the server.

A release this year would be so great.
This server needs much more hype for a successful start though.

Kronos won't release before february I would say.
So Nostalrius has time to prepare for a release before that date. This testing session is a way to announce that the release is not far away ! Maybe for christmas, but dunno if there is enough players to play wow on christmas.

Comparing RB to ED is apples and oranges though. Rebirth was the only reasonably blizzlike english realm available, and that's why people always came back. ED isn't even a blizzlike realm as far as I'm concerned.

There's no reason to believe that one of these servers is going to be vastly inferior to the other. All things being equal, people will hop on the first one that launches.

Sooner the better would be good, my wow urge is getting too big and Corecraft is nowhere to be seen.

i played on RB till lvl 25.. went WC and BFD dungeons, seen how badly they were done + many common dungeon bugs, like items not being rolled for, wrong GY positioning, not working bosses/links in those dungeons and i simply stopped playing there. I am sorry, but i dont know about what quality are you talking about.. :o

Rebirth being well scripted is their biggest secret--it was actually just as shitty as ED. Just different kind of shit.

Sorry to say, but Nostalrius accounts will be sold as well, if the server turns out successful and people actually want to. There's also being sold ED accounts on different sites, this can't be prevented lol. It isn't Kronos who's selling these characters, it's the players
