Maybe when it came to the exact date yeah, but they also had PTRs where people could test out all the content themselves before the patch came, and did previews to build hype. They didn't just let people sit in the dark until the day it was time to push it out.
Personally were already in the same position over on Kronos where many of us are beginning to feel like we've buckled down for months of MC over and over, it is an interesting discussion that I also spurred on the forums there.
At the end of the day I think it's important to at least string people along a little to keep 'me hyped. Invite guilds to test the raid content, show preview videos of the bosses in action, etc etc.
