Ban Appeal.

Ban Appeal.

Greetings Nostalrius Gamemasters,
Recently my account has been closed/banned based on "Compromise"

This account was banned as it has been compromised.

We recommend that you change all of the passwords on any other accounts, as the hacker has obtained your details from somewhere. You can change your password on the Website (not forums) using the Email address that was used when you created the account.

Regards, the GM Team.

That was the immediate closer of not only my account, but the thread as well. I didn't get any chance to appeal, nor any real explanation.. only that my account was hacked, therefor compromised and perma-closed.

According to the Terms of Use Agreement:
II. Account Information

Nostalrius staff will never ask for your account details or share any confidential information. For the safety of your account, never release any information that could be used for illicit purposes. Such as email addresses, account names or passwords.

I have never released my info to anyone, not even my wife! (she has her own account)
So I haven't Violate anything here.

According to the Account security:
Account security

The account owner is responsible for the security of the account and that it's sufficiently protected. Note that Nostalrius staff does not recover hacked accounts. You should:

  • Never share your account information;
  • Have a unique and complicated password that does not exceed 16 characters;
  • Connect yourself from a secure computer and network;
  • Never download unsafe files that might contain viruses/malware.

This again has been fulfilled.

Now according to the Sanctions:
V. Permanent ban

The most serious sanction. Permanent bans are rare but definitive. This sanction is applied in case of multiple violations of the rules, or after multiple account interruptions, as well as any of the following:

    Scamming.
  • COD Scamming;
  • Hacking;
  • Using any means of botting (e.g. a program);
  • Abuse of major in-game bugs;
  • Possession of any item(s) obtained with illegal methods;
  • Any client modification (libraries, executables, MPQ, etc.);
  • Revealing the identity of a Nostalrius Begins staff member;
  • Advertising for other private servers or gold selling websites;
  • Selling/Buying player names;
  • Exchanging accounts, gold, items, or any ingame services for another game's features;
  • Selling/Buying accounts, gold, items, or any ingame services with real money;
  • Publishing software, methods or articles on cheating which can be applied on the server.

I haven't done any of these things, however my account was compromised by a hacker. From what I have read, I'm not the only one in fact over a dozen have had this exact thing happen in the last few days. It's like hackers when on a killing spree to Nostalrius accounts.

I am asking to a ban appeal so my account ban can be lifted. I felt I was a victim of a crime and should not be punished, I love playing on Nostalrius.
  • I am an active Player on PvE Server, which includes a Guild that I am the leader of. (which no one else can gain GL while my account is banned.
  • I was pretty active on PvP server but re-rolled to PvE once it was released. I still play for an hour on PvP to continue and level my main on PvP
  • I currently Help on PTR for the AQ release (I lead one aq20 run so far, while also spent time in 2 pug groups)
  • I am an active poster in the RP Forums & Paladin Class Forums. I even have a few Stickied Guides for Gear.
  • I recently Started gathering a list of Bugs from the TBC PTR, so I became active over there as well.
I do not have another account, nor plan to have one to enjoy Nostalrius Begins.

I would like to thank the Gamemaster for their time and consideration, please don't end my time here on Nostalrius. Take Care.

GM's does not restore accounts banned while being hacked. They simply don't have the ressources to do in-depth investigations, thus account security is your and only your responsibility. This also means whatever the hacker does is your responsibility, and therefore account will be banned if the hacker is for example selling gold.

And you must have done *something* to be hacked. For example:
* Using your ingame name as account name
* Using same account name (or/and password) on other servers or websites
* having an easy to guess password (qwerty123-like style)
* Downloaded some nasty porn (gimme that link!) from a shady site
* Installed a not-so-smart addon

I I am able to get this ban lifted I could change my password and hope/pray this doesn't happen to me again.
I didn't do anything wrong here and I feel I should not have my account banned.
Other have had their accounts hacked but not banned.... Why should mine be closed and not theirs?
All I am asking is a chance to prove myself; that's fair is it not?

And you must have done *something* to be hacked.

Why is it considered me?

* Using your ingame name as account name
That's impossible for my account name to be my toon name do to the naming restrictions. i did it that was on purpose.

* Using same account name (or/and password) on other servers or websites

Not that I am aware of. I'm pretty dang sure I made mine Unique from the rest in case such a thing happened.

* having an easy to guess password (qwerty123-like style)

Lol I assure you it's not.

* Downloaded some nasty porn (gimme that link!) from a shady site

Nope. (why would you want a porn link?)

* Installed a not-so-smart addon

Well if i did it was from the addons given by the Nostalrius Website, lets hope that wasn't the case.

2. The player that was hacked has no fault in the whole compromise situation

That is not always true. Many of the hacked accounts up to recently was done by people buying gold or reveiled their account name, and you can indeed say those people directly or indirectly caused their account to be hacked.

With the recent increase in hacked accounts I hightly doubt all bought gold (but I am sure some still did!)

I think that he should be giving a chance to get his account back. I play with him from time to time on this realm I know he doesn't do anything that would get him banned. Kind of one the reasons I don't play private servers is because the staff isn't bound to a quality of service like retail servers do.

A better system is to make a hack reporting forums where if a PERSON loses all control of his account and can no longer regain it by any means it get perma banned rather than perma banned an account that has only been hacked once and the owner still access to it and can change password now that being said if it get compromised again then i could understand a perma ban as the person lost his account twice

Also the TBC bug i have no idea of it but seems like the problem ?

They dont have an SSL certificate on their bugtracker, so maybe someone hack the nostalrius bugtracker DB more easly and get all bugtracker account information.

So if your bugtracker account have the same login/pass than game account, be maybe afraid
