Yeah, only people who speak English should be able to get banned for abusing obvious bugs.

of course goy, we gotta adhear to what blizzard says about exploiting, but not about character roll backs, item recovery, fixing actual bugs

This is Blizzard's own current official stance on bug exploitation and one we emulate here:

"Sometimes bugs can be used to provide an unfair advantage to certain players or to negatively affect the service itself. Factors included in determining an appropriate penalty for knowing exploitation of a bug include:

Whether or not the exploit is performed intentionally, maliciously, and/or repeatedly.
Whether or not the exploit damages another character, their gameplay, the service itself, and/or its economy.
Whether or not an attempt has been made to conceal the exploit's use.

Bug exploitation that we consider extreme includes, but is not limited to:

Any exploit that has a severe negative impact on a realm's economy.
Causing disruption in service or intentionally crashing a realm/server."

"While bug exploitation involves the abuse of what is essentially a programming mistake, the abuse of game mechanics is the act of taking advantage of game systems. This category includes using/distributing game mechanics in a manner unintended by their design that negatively affects another character, their gameplay, the service itself and/or its economy."

We've taken a similar stance in the past and will continue to take it now. Those players who intentionally and maliciously abused a bug - and especially those who attempted to conceal it - will receive their appropriate consequence.

blizzard wouldn't permanently ban people though. they would remove the gained items from accounts and ban people for 24-72 hours. you shouldn't be perma banning people for a bug that occurs naturally in game

When something bugged, exploitable appears right in front of a player as he is playing the game, and he exploits it I don't that really think indicates he is a completely shameless player who deserves a permanent ban, temporary surely but permanent is a bit too much.

Am I the only one (beside the banned ones obviously) feeling a little sad after seeing so many people being banned for this? And if only 10% of all banned write on the forum, then the real number is even higher.

Definately, all those banned people abused a bug - no question about that.

But seen in a bigger picture: how does this expose Nostalrius? A major bug which should have been found on the PTR slips through. GM's reacts slowly (it is Christmas, there are probably only a few GMs "at work" and they are busy).
But instead of doing a rollback they start the ban machine - and now it is too late to roll back.

Maybe it wasn't technically possible to do a rollback before patch was applied - do GMs / devs make a full backup before applying what was supposed to be a minor patch? Probably not.


Can Nostalrius review some bans?
Is it possible to make the penalty more dynamic / reasonable?
For example: (and this is just examples):
- Permanent ban for all exploiting after the GM's wrote the famous server message.
- 7 day ban + removal of herbs / ore from persons which exploited a low amount of items AND made a ticket to GM's about this bug before the GM server message.

"exploited a low amount" - does that even make sense? I imagine a max of 4 stacks of farmed herbs / ore - anything more than that should still lead to perma ban.


Why do I even care? I wasn't banned
I feel bad seing so many people getting caught and banned. Yes, some people did this intentionally and here a ban is in place, but others are simply ordinary players like you and I. People we need here on Nostalrius.

like evvery fucking PTR test or anything after release there are bug / exploit already report or know by GM (hakkar MC bug/razor kiting bug/mandokir random charge/etc etc etc)

GO YOUR FUCKING JOB and ROLL BACK the server just before the UPDATE and do it CORRECTLY
